Lava cake or Molten Chocolate Cake is a combination of flourless chocolate cake and soufflé. It is also known by the names Chocolate Fondant Pudding and Chocolate Lava Cake. The Chocolate Lava Cake is known to have invented in 1987 in New York by the American based Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The typical cake has four basic ingredients which includes eggs, butter, sugar, and chocolate. There are various types of fillings which are used to make these types of cakes. There are other famous variations to the Lava Cakes like the Lemon lava cake, white chocolate lava cake, Caramel lava cake, etc.

History Of Lava Cakes
Though the Molten Chocolate cake is known to have invented by the American Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, another claim has been made by the French Chef, Jacques Torres. He claims that the Lava cake recipe was found in France years back. As per Chef Vongerichten’s claims, a chocolate sponge cake was pulled out from the oven even before it was completely baked. It was noted that the center of the cake was still warm and runny. It also had a good taste and texture as well. Since the invention of the Lava Cake it has become one of the favorite desserts in the United States and the rest of the world.

Ingredients Used And Popular Method Of Preparing Lava Cakes
A typical Lava Cake mostly has a Chocolate filling and the other basic ingredients are butter, sugar, and egg. One of the noted specialties of the Lava Cake is that the cake is made without flour. The chocolate and butter are melted together and kept separately. The eggs are whisked with the sugar to give a thick paste and this helps to make a lighter cake. The ingredients are mixed well and then baked. The Lava Cake is normally served warm to provide a lava flowing effect.

Popular Lava Cake Recipe Variations
There have been many alterations to the Lava cake recipe, which mostly includes the variations in the fillings. Instead of the chocolate fillings various other flavors like Lemon, Caramel, Strawberry, and Orange can be found. Apart from the Chocolate filling, the Orange flavor is one of the most popular due to the typical appearance.
