French dips are generally made to be eaten with sandwiches and are made with minced onions and mayonnaise. French dips are not to be confused with the French dip sandwich which is a specialty made from roast beef along with French baguettes. The French dip adopted by the American culinary has onion and mayonnaise as the main ingredients. It can be served with sandwiches or even with chips and fried bacon.
