Fish Juice

Fish juice is prepared by fermenting the salted water and fish at room temperature. Normally, shell fish and other types of similar fishes are used for preparing this juice. The fish juice has been used by the Koreans since several centuries as a seasoning mix ingredient and they also used it for Kimchi preparation. About 140 varieties of fish juices are popularly favored and savored throughout Korea. About 60 of these juices are combined with various ingredients to make a delicious Kimchi seasoning. Shrimp juice, yellow carbonera juice and anchovy juice are the popular variants of fish juice enjoyed throughout Korea.

 

Fish Juice Recipe
The regular juice from fish is extracted by salting it. The fishes are fermented for a particular period of time and their juices are then removed and used for other culinary purposes. Sometimes, when grains are also added to the fish juice, it is known as Sikhae. Grains like cooked and extra-glutonous rice as well Italian millet and extra-glutonous millet are also used for the preparation of this fish juice variant. The grains are cooked to just moistness and their moisture is curbed by drying them.

The juice extracted from fish are also valued for their health benefits. The fish juice delivers health benefits like -

  • Promotion of Cardiovascular Health: The juice extracted from fishes is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids. The Omega-3 inhibits aids in regulating the health of blood capillaries and avoids the plaques.

 

  • Boosting Brain Functions: Many Korean folk remedies suggest using fish juice for boosting brain functions. The scientists have affirmed this usage saying that fish oil is loaded with minerals and omega-3 which aids in curbing disorders like memory loss, etc.
