Ephedra Diet consists of specific kinds of products that contain ephedrine and several pseudo ephedrine substances. The chemicals extracted from the ephedra plant had been used by Chinese medicine men since the ancient times. Although, it was initially used to treat low blood pressure and chronic asthmatic conditions, its use has been popularized as a means of losing weight. Ephedra is usually available as diet pills across the United States of America. However, its uses have been restricted by the FDA due to its severe side effects and considerable health risks associated with it. The diet acts as a stimulant of the central nervous system and is also known to suppress appetite.

The supplement was banned across the United States of America since 2006 (http://nccam.nih.gov/news/alerts/ephedra/consumeradvisory.htm  ) although some people continued to use it for weight loss. The ban was lifted in the year 2009 after a Utah court over ruled the decision in 2009.
