Custard is a dessert or a dessert sauce that is flavored with vanilla or other essences of choice.

 

Ingredients and Preparation

Custard is made from milk and eggs with different flavors. Custard can be prepared separately as an individual dessert or as a base for quiche or other foods. Essentially made from milk or cream along with egg yolks, sugar and vanilla, custards may also contain gelatin, corn starch and flour.

 

The custard as a dessert is often served with fresh fruits in it. The custard is generally cooked in a sauce but it can also be baked or steamed.

 

History

The custard is a long standing dessert favorite in England dating back to as early as the fourteenth century.
