In saucepan, cook bacon until crisp; remove and crumble.
Pour off all but 1 tablespoon drippings.
Cook onion with thyme in drippings until tender.
Add soup, water, and beans.
Heat; stir occasionally.

Melt the butter and gently saute the sliced onion, garlic, apple and thyme.
Stir in the curry powder and flour.
Cook for 2 to 3 minutes; gradually add stock and cook for a further 3 to 4 minutes.
