Charlie Trotter is a well renowned restaurateur and chef based in Chicago, born on 8th September, 1959.
The chefdid not initially belong to the culinary world. His family was not at all food focused. He started gaining interest in food and cookery while he was in college and stayed with his roommate Joel Fish who was a passionate cook. His roommate used to prepare various dishes for Trotter for him to taste. From thereon, Charlie Trotter saw himself entering into the world of food, where he used to prepare food for his friends as a source of entertainment. Charlie trotter recipes became very popular among his friends. He also developed a sense of writing cookbooks at this stage of life.
Charlie Trotter is almost self taught and took his first job as a cook in the North Shore area of Chicago called Sinclair's. He came up with two well known restaurants “Charlie Trotter’s” in Chicago and “Restaurant Charlie” in Las Vegas in 1987 and 2008 respectively. Charlie Trotter recipes in both the restaurants were immensely popular due to their distinctiveness and string appeal. Both his restaurants are Michelin starred and are quite popular in respective areas. .
Professional Career of Chef Charlie Trotter
Charlie Trotter did his graduation from New Trier High School. He took his political science degree in from University of Wisconsin–Madison. Thereafter, in the year 1982, he began his career in the culinary world. He pursed his education in the cookery field in Chicago, San Francisco at California Culinary Academy, Florida and Europe.
Charlie Trotterhas written various cookbooks and management books. Also, he has distributed various natural and organic gourmet foods nationally. Trotter is also involved with his humanitarian Charlie Trotter Culinary Education Foundation and other similar causes. In the year 2005, the chef had been honored with “Humanitarian of the Year” award by International Association of Culinary Professionals.
Trotter often invites groups of students from public high school to his restaurant as a part of his Excellence Program, where the students eat foods and are explained about the inspiration behind the preparation of the meal. In 1997, Charlie Trotter played a cameo role in the film “My Best Friend's Wedding”, where he was seen screaming as a typical angry chef.
In 1999, Charlie Trotter acted as the host of “The Kitchen Sessions”, a PBS cooking show. In this show many Charlie Trotter recipes were described in detail. Also, the chef’s techniques of cooking were revealed in this show. He emphasizes that two recipes can never be the same as is the case with two riffs in an improvisational jazz.
