Cannabis Tea

Cannabis tea or weed tea or pot tea is an infusion of the cannabis leaves in hot water. The leaves are mashed to extract the active compound THC or tetrahydrocannabinol and it is mixed with milk to produce weed tea.

History

The exact origin of weed tea is not known but there are several varieties of this tea that are prepared all over the world. In India, a sweet drink is also produced by adding the mashed weed leaves to cold milk. This recipe has traditionally been used in India for thousands of years and is called as 'bhang'.

Ingredients Used and Popular Methods of Preparation

The tea is brewed by mixing the powdered leaves with water. THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is the active compound, but it dissolves much faster in alcohol or oil.  As a result, there are several recipes where the tea leaves are mashed with milk or butter before being used to brew tea. It is also common to use budder or marijuana butter in ordinary green tea to produce the same results. Sugar can be added if required but a little milk is necessary to extract the active ingredient THC that is present in the leaves. Traditionally, the leaves are left to steep for atleast two hours before imbibing the tea to get the best psychoactive effects of the herb.
