Butterscotch Pie is a creamy dessert pie variety made with a filling using very simple ingredients like beaten eggs, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, butter, milk and some flavoring. The conventional butterscotch pie is at least four generations old, which has now undergone variations from the traditional steamed pudding-like versions to the modern microwave ones. Old fashioned butterscotch pie recipes gave out the rich taste of brown sugar and had a brighter color, and for that purpose used extra dark brown sugar in the mix. Butterscotch pies have to be chilled at least 3-6 hours before serving, so as to enjoy the real flavor and taste. Often teamed with sweetened whipped cream, butterscotch pie is truly a sweet treat to indulge in.
