Bundt Cake Pan

Bundt cake Pan is a baking pan used for making bundt cake. The bundt pan gives a round and ridged ring shape to the cake. Bundt cake is a ring shaped, tea time cake. The term ‘bundt’ is popular in North America and so is the use of the bundt pan. The bundt pan is usually 5 inches deep and 10 or 12 inches in diameter, with a hole in the centre, which ensures that the deep cakes bake evenly. Bundt pans were originally made of cast iron or delicate ceramic, but they were too heavy to use. Nowadays, aluminum and silicone bundt pans are commonly found.

History

The exact time when the bundt pan was invented is not known. However, as early as the year 1901, the word ‘bundt’ appears in The Settlement Cookbook, which was written by Lizzie Kander of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the United States. Hence we can safely assume that the bundt pans have been around ever since the beginning of the twentieth century.

In the year 1950, H. David Dalquist, the founder of Nordic Ware Company based at St. Louis Park, Minnesota, was the first to manufacture aluminum bundt pans, which were lighter and more convenient to use. The bundt pan gained wide popularity after the year 1966.
