Black Forest Cake

Black forest cake is a chocolate cake, is a multi layered  chocolate cake with whipped cream, and cherries, which are added in between of every layer. The cake is creamy in its texture and chocolaty in taste. This black forest cake is traditionally made by using alcohol so that it gets a kicking effect but the cake can be prepared without adding alcohol to it.   

 

Origin

The word black forest cake recipe originates from German liquor Schwarzwalder Kirsch and it has been originated in Germany. It was first known in writing in 1934 but was well known and famous in 1949. In Germany, the black forest cake is known as Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte due to the liquor added to it.  

 

Ingredients and Method of Preparing Black Forest Cake Recipe

The prime ingredients that are suggested for  black forest cake are refined flour,  condensed milk, cocoa powder, little baking powder, cooking soda, butter,  cola drink, some salt,  milk chocolate, fresh whipped cream and cherries. In a thick bottomed pan, the butter is melted in low flame, then is removed from flame and is kept aside for cooling. The sweetened condensed milk is added to the melted butter and is mixed thoroughly. The refined flour is sieved with cocoa powder, baking powder, cooking soda and a pinch of salt is added together. It should be sieved properly so that no lumps occur in the mixture. The baking tray is greased with little butter, is dusted with little refined flour, and is kept aside.

 

 In another pan, little butter and refined flour mixture with the sweetened condensed milk is mixed together. Then an aerated cola drink is added and is mixed nicely. The batter is poured onto a greased baking tray and is baked for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. When sponge cake is ready, it is kept aside for cooling and then it is horizontally cut into two parts. The cream is whipped properly until it becomes smooth, light and fluffy in texture and then the two layers are sandwiched with whipped cream and sliced cherries. When it is ready, the black forest cake  is garnished with cherries on top of whipped cream and the chocolate is grated and sprinkled over the cake fully. The black forest cake should be served chilled and can be prepared for any occasions.

 

Variations of Black Forest Gateau

The variations that can be brought while preparing the black forest cake, one large pan can be used instead of three different pans. Margarine, regular butter or vegetable oil can be used which will be a substitute for Irish butter and rum can be used instead of brandy in this cake.
