Beer Brewing is the process of manufacturing beer. Though beer may be brewed in the house, it is mostly brewed commercially.
The Procedure of Beer Brewing
Beer brewing is a complicated and time consuming process involving a number of steps. Basically the overall process is aimed at fermenting a starchy substance with water.
Steps involved in Beer Brewing
1. Mashing- mashing the malt grain by heating
2. Lautering- extraction of the substances for making wort
3. Boiling- boiling wort to prevent infection
4. Fermentation- by adding yeast to the cooled wort
5. Conditioning- for enhanced flavoring of the beer
6. Filtering- for flavor stability and luster of the beer
7. Filling- packing beer into containers
Methods of Fermentation for Beer Brewing
1. Warm
2. Cool
3. Spontaneous or wild
The fermentation may be done in open or closed containers. A secondary brewing process may be out in a brewery or in the container. The steeping process used is akin to that used in steeping beverages like tea.
The basic ingredients with which beer is made are: A primary starch source such as malted barley, water, brewing yeast, and a flavoring agent such as hops. A supplementary starch like maize or rice may be used.
