Bacon Dip

Bacon Dip is a dipping sauce made with bacon and other ingredients like cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, etc. It is served as a condiment with breads and crackers, and adds a special zest and flavor to such foods.

Ingredients: Ingredients used to prepare bacon dip include bacon, softened cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, chives and optionally some horseradish.

 

Method of Preparation: The dip is prepared by frying bacon and chopping it into bits, and then mixing with the rest of the ingredients in a mixing bowl. The simple dip is quick and easy to prepare.

 

Serving Bacon Dip

The dip is served with breads, vegetables, chips or crackers. It may be served warm, cold or at room temperature, and is served in fancy bowls surrounded with chips or breads in a plate. 

 

Bacon Dip Recipe Variations

Here are some of the variations to the basic recipe for making the dip-

Bacon Bean Dip: The dip is made with crisply cooked bacon, refried beans with jalapenos, cayenne pepper, grated Cheddar cheese, finely diced onion, minced parsley, crushed garlic and olive oil. To make the dip, onions and garlic are sautéed in heated olive oil and the rest of the ingredients are added to this and heated till the cheese melts. The dip so prepared is served warm with pita bread or tortilla chips.

Bacon Tomato Dip: The dip is made with cream cheese, mustard, bacon, tomato (which has been peeled, de-seeded and chopped), celery salt and chopped green pepper. To prepare the dip, the bacon is first cooked till crisp and then drained on a paper towel. It is mixed with the other ingredients to make a delicious dip that is chilled before serving.

 

Nutritional Information

Bacon dip incorporates the goodness of bacon, which is a rich source of protein that is necessary for building of body tissue. It also supplies niacin, thiamin, vitamin B12, selenium, iron and phosphorus to the body. Cheese and/ or sour cream of the dip add to its calcium content, while use of fresh herbs help in stimulating appetite. A low-calorie cream cheese can be used in place of regular cream cheese to reduce the calorie count of bacon dip.
