Apple Pie Recipes

Apple Pie is a hot favorite fruit based pie, also called as an apple tart, which is primarily made with cooking apples. There are single curst as well as double crust apple pie varieties; double crust apple pies usually take in pastry top and bottom, where as single crust apple pies like deep-dish apple pies and tarte tatin usually have only top crust. Fresh, canned or dried cooking apples may be used for preparing apple pies, along with other ingredients. Early English apple pies were made with dried apples, which had a positive flavor compared to the fresh ones and often used spices, raisins, figs and pears as other ingredients. Natural food colors like saffron were used to give color to apple pie. Another interesting fact about early English apple pies is that they lacked presence of sugar or sweeteners and hence were much healthier compared to the modern variations. Served as an exotic dessert or even as a filling breakfast choice, apple pies are usually teamed with whipped cream, often as a topping.
