3 Day Cardiac Diet

The 3 day cardiac diet also commonly called the Birmingham hospital diet is the diet plan used at Birmingham, Alabama hospital cardiac centre for the patients who are overweight and need to lose some weight just before undergoing a surgery. This diet is now commonly practiced by people as a quick weight loss program. The diet claims about 10 pound (4.5 kg) weight loss in three days.

This diet works in two ways – reduction of intake of calories and chemical breakdown. Substitution of dishes may affect the efficiency of the diet and hence it is not allowed.

 

 

Diet plan

 

Day 1

Breakfast – Black coffee / tea (without sugar or with artificial sweetener), ½ grapefruit / juice, 1 slice of dry toast, 1tbsp (15gm) peanut butter.

Lunch – Black coffee / tea (without sugar or with artificial sweetener), ½ cup tuna, 1 slice of dry toast / 1 oz. of cheddar cheese.

Dinner – 3 oz. Lean Meat, 1 cup string beans, 1 cup carrot / beets, 1 small apple, 1 cup vanilla ice cream.

 

Day 2

Breakfast – Black coffee / tea (without sugar or with artificial sweetener), 1 egg (boiled), 1 slice dry of dry toast, ½ banana.

Lunch – Black coffee / tea (without sugar or with artificial sweetener), 1 cup cottage cheese / ½ cup of tuna, 5 saltine crackers.

Dinner - 2 Beef Franks, 1 cup cabbage or broccoli, ½ cup carrots or turnip Greens, ½ banana, ½ cup vanilla ice Cream

 

Day 3

Breakfast - Breakfast – Black coffee / tea (without sugar or with artificial sweetener), 5 saltine crackers, 1 oz. cheddar cheese, 1 small apple.

Lunch - Black coffee / tea (without sugar or with artificial sweetener), 1 hard-boiled egg, 1 slice of dry toast.

Dinner - 1 cup tuna/cottage cheese, 1 cup beans or cauliflower, 1 cup carrots or beets, 1cup melon, ½ cup vanilla ice cream.

 

 

Key points

 

  • Variation of amounts is strictly prohibited and it is recommended to stick to the quantities mentioned in the diet plan.
  • Diet cola/soda is allowed along with this diet.
  • Only salt and pepper can be used and no other seasoning can be used.
  • This diet has to be used for 3 consecutive days each week and the rest days regular food has to be eaten (but no over-eating).
  • Binging on other foods will make the diet ineffective.
