Reputed to be the world scariest restaurant, Fortezza Medicea in Voltera, Italy, doesn’t fail to attract customers. I can’t understand why someone would want to eat their food in fear? But, it seems that all those who go to the world’s scariest restaurant can digest fear and food at the same time.

To eat at this restaurant, you need to book weeks in advance and subject yourself to a thorough back ground check up. Once on the restaurant premises you and your guest will have to go through security checks and your cell phones and anything they believe is dangerous will be taken.

 The Fortezza Medicea

All this trouble, just to eat at the Fortezza Medicea! Wrong! The specialty of this restaurant lies in the fact that, Bruno, the pianist of the restaurant as well as the head chef is serving life for murder. Apart from them, the wait staff and the cook staff are all convicted inmates. Yes, Fortezza Medicea is a maximum security prison.

Don’t worry; you are always under the constant watchful eyes of 20 jail wardens who are looking for any trouble in the restaurant. They are willing to take control in case of an escape attempt, a violent prison outbreak or even a hostage situation. The restaurant management would also like to intimate you that for your safety only plastic cooking utensils and paper plates are allowed in the restaurant.. Great consolation, indeed! At least you wouldn’t have a hoard of inmates barging through the kitchen doors with knives in their hands!

Supposedly, all this adds to the sumptuousness of the food especially the Southern Italian dishes from Puglia, Sicily, and Naples. I have also heard from a few customers that the red wine sauce served at the restaurant is something you would kill for. No surprises there!
