World Cuisine Contest Chef Championship is going to be held at the Bocuse d'Or in France. Many chefs all over the world are preparing for this World Cuisine Contest which is the world's top most culinary competition. Chefs are undergoing rigorous training and putting in as much as 1000 hours for the same in order to stand any chance at France's world cuisine contest.

 

The World Cuisine Contest was first organized in the year 1987 by the famous chef Paul Bocuse who is known as the father of “nouvelle cuisine”. The World Cuisine Contest is also known as the Bocuse d'Or in honor of the man who started it all and is held every two years. The legendary French chef Paul Bocuse owns the L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges, which is one of the most prestigious and revered restaurants in France.

 

The competition spans 2 days and is attended by thousands of chefs and thousands of visitors from all over the world. 2009 saw the World Cuisine Contest watched by 15,000 visitors . The 2011 event would be held on the 25th and 26th of January. The show would be broadcast by over 50 international television networks.


 

France's World Cuisine Contest Details

 

The contest has 24 teams of two members each. These teams draw cards which decides the day of participation. The World Cuisine Competition gives each of these teams 5.35 hours to prepare a platter of fish and meat each, of 14 servings. The 12 plates prepared on each of the competition days are judged by a 24 person jury. The judges are allowed to mark the plates on taste (40 marks), presentation and originality (20 marks) making a final score of 60. The eminent judge panel has included famous chefs Heston Blumen thal, Thomas Keller and Wolfgang Puck in the past. The participating chefs get an opportunity to participate in front of the best in the industry via World Cuisine Contest.

 

Glories of the Past

 

France has won the contest six times while chefs from Norway have made it four times in the last 12 times of the competition. Sweden and Luxembourg chefs have won them once each. The only year a chef from outside Europe won the contest was in 1989 – William Wai of Singapore won the bronze.
