Choose eco-friendly seafood to avoid over fishing and to prevent the destruction of species. But many people choose eco friendly seafood considering the factors like place, specific species, where and how it is grown. So why is it confusing to choose eco-friendly seafood?

Marine Stewardship council (MSC)

Marine Stewardship council (MSC) the sustainable seafood largest certifier helps people in choosing the eco –friendly seafood. It was started in the year 1997 by Unilever and World Wildlife Fund and they have certified 5000 and more products. A food politic reporter says that it is a “gold standard” for people who seek eco friendly seafood. Marine Stewardship council (MSC) set standards for certification and sustainable seafood seekers find it very informative.

But some Experts feel that Marine Stewardship council (MSC)certification is not very useful to the consumers and has many flaws in it. The number of fishes with certification is really less and effect of MSC certification is not very intense. So people opine that whole new institution similar to MSC must be set up for sustainable seafood.

Besides this, they also say that regulations of the oceans have to be streamlined and many other things have to be incorporated to bring in more sustainable sea foods like enhanced marine protected area and improved international institutional control over certain fishes like tuna.

As far as consumer is concerned sustainable seafood is the best choice to safeguard the species for our grandchildren to enjoy, else they have to know about seafood only in books.
