Which Cheeses Are Lower In Fat
Cheese is a favorite food for most people and added as an ingredient to several foods too.
They are fatty and has saturated fat in it so lets take a look at which cheeses are lower in fat.
Cheese has saturated fat in it and is a good source of protein, calcium and phosphorous. But if one is consuming cheese on a regular basis then it might be a good idea to look for low fat cheeses. These days every food has cheese in some form or the other. Children are also eating cheese in Pizza, salad, dressings and pasta. It might help in cutting down the fat content and calories by looking for low fat options in the store while grocery shopping.
It is hard to get rid of saturated fat from cheese but a reduced fat cheese may be a good option.
-Cheddar cheese has 9 gms of fat/ounce and 6 gms of saturated fat.
-Used aged cheese is more flavorful. Cheddar, Gorgonzola, Parmesan and Asiago fall into this category of aged cheese.
-Cheese lower in fat are the skim mozzarella, string cheeses, farmers cheese and Neufchatel.
-Goat cheese is lower in fat, fewer calories than cow’s milk.
-Reduced fat form of cheese like cheddar, Monterey jack, Mozzarella, Brie, Swiss, Colby,
Muenster and American are available.
-Lower fat cheese that is milder in flavor is Cabot cheese which tastes different.
Reduced fat cheeses have 6 gms of fat with 4 gms of saturated fat. It works well in sandwiches and salads. One can also use 2% cheese which is good for pizza toppings. Fat free cheeses are not as tasty except the shredded variety which can be used as salad garnish. Fat free cream cheese is a fine blend with other ingredients or with herbs added to it. The fact about fat free cheese is it cannot be broiled. Example: Sargento reduced fat cheese with 10-33% fewer calories and 25% less fat than regular cheese.

- Best low fat cheese for snacking- Laughing cow high gourmet per ¾ oz- 35 Cal-2g fat.
- Best low fat cheese- Mozzarella Polly-o-Park –Skim Mozzarella- 10oz serving 70 cal, 5 g fat.
- Best cracker topper, low fat cheese, 86 cal, 5 g fat.
- Best low fat cheese- Swiss Jarlsborg- ½ the fat of regular and lesser calories.
