A  place where man eats frog!

Hard to believe but it is the truth .Nagaland in India is a state where this is found .Here little tree frogs are cooked and patients after their surgery are fed there. The interesting fact is this that in Nagaland bee larvae are used to prepare special snacks and served to special guest with due respect .

 The Nagas:A rich traditional culture!

The vegetable market of Kohima ,the capital of Nagaland , looks like a zoo .Here the people purchase different animals to cook and eat. Chicken ,pork ,dog are the main food items of Nagaland .Spiders stripped in black and green ,are the exotic food source for the Nagas .Snails boiled in bamboo shoot ,then shucked from their shell like narrow are considered good for improving vision .Bees are considered a healthy food items for the cancer patients in Nagaland.

The nagas use almost all the creatures found in their vicinity. They  prepare there food in a traditional way and enjoy them.

Food and Drink of the Naga Tribes ---------------------------------------- The staple food of the Naga tribes is rice. It is generally taken with meat or vegetables. The Nagas are very fond of chillies and the Semas eat them with the greatest delight. Meat could be beef, pork and chicken. Nagas also eat mithun, dogs, cats, fish, spiders, birds, crabs - in fact almost any living thing that he can lay his hands on. Even the elephant is eaten and is considered a delicacy. No part of the animal is wasted. Even the skin and intestines are eaten. The skin is spared only if needed for making a shield. Sometimes the meat is smoke dried and preserved for a long time. Meat and vegetables are usually cooked together. The food is generally boiled. Certain items are considered taboo by the Nagas either because they are not clean or because they are suspected to transmit their qualities to the consumer. Most of the restrictions relate to women, and in case of items which are 'Genna' for men to take, the restriction is relaxed in respect of old people. Women are not allowed to eat monkeys lest they became extravagant. Pregnant woman was not allowed to eat a bear, as it is regarded as a stupid animal. The tiger and the leopard are not taken because of an old belief that man, tiger and spirit were all brothers at beginning of creation. Rice beer is the main drink. It is generally of three kinds, Zutho, Ruhi, and Dzutse and may be taken at any time. It is nutritive in content and if hygienically prepared is a desirable drink. It is taken by all, including the very young. Source: http://www.webindia123.com/nagaland/people/food.htm

Many Hilltribes of Myanmar, Thailand, N. Vietnam, Laos, and S. China also eat dog. Eating frog is very common! In France Le Grenouille is considered a special dish. In Thailand frogs are eaten in Jungle Curry also stirfried with shallots, chiles, and garlic with some fish sauce-very nice. They hack them up and fry the entire frog legs, bodies, everything. Very tasty! I can buy frog legs in all Asian Markets for sure. Taste: A cross between chicken and fish, a little chewy but very good. Shanti/Mary-Anne
