Improving your body image is like bringing up a child. You can do it only once and if you commit a mistake, you are stuck with it for the rest of your life. Although genes, family upbringing, and circumstances play a major role in building your body image, you do have some thing in your hands too. Here are Top 5 tips to improve body image for you:

 

 

Be realistic

 

By being realistic, it is meant that start with being happy with what you have and improving it to a legitimate extent. For instance, if you have small eyes, hoping for large eyes is crazy. Instead, you can focus on your eyes and make them beautiful using make up. Similarly, if your height is small, adding more height with towering heels can be a short-term solution but for long-term results, go for dresses and hairstyle that makes you appear tall.

 

 

Stop comparisons

 

If you want a better you, you need to stop comparing yourself to somebody else. Realize that every individual is unique in this world and instead of ruing what you don’t have, you should focus on what you can become. If you look at someone who has a perfect body image, rest assured that he or she must have worked really hard on it.

 

 

Prepare a list

 

Make a list of all the things that you like about yourself. Be it your eyes, hair, teeth, nose, sense of humor,  or your dressing sense. Forget about the things that you don’t like and focus on what is good about you. Then work on enhancing those parts of your body and personality, which together make up your body image.

 

 

Indulge in Pleasurable activities 

 

To show that you care for yourself, indulge yourself in an activity you love to do. Do this regularly, either on your own or with friends. Buy your favorite clothes, favorite cosmetic or favorite books. Visit places you love to hang in, like your favorite coffee shop, favorite book store or favorite restaurant. You may also consider visiting the spa regularly, which will make you feel good on the outside and inside too.

 

 

Talk so that others listen

 

While talking to others, observe what is appreciated or hated the most. Work on the points that others like in you and try to get rid of those that are disliked. You may need a lot of practice to do so, therefore, always watch yourself talk. You may even take help of a daily diary for this. Speak to a friend or a counselor about ways to improve your conversational or communicational skills.
