Only few days are left for October and you know, it is one of my favorite months of the year. First of all, I became a first-time mom in this month; and secondly I can get to eat some of my favorite fruits during this time. For all of you fruit-lover persons, here is a list of in-season fruits for October.

A basket of October fruitsApple is not only my favorite, but also is adorable to many people all over the world, for its delicious taste, flavor and health benefit. As the common proverb says ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’; the fruit really contains several useful nutrients and with its antioxidant property can prevent deadly ailments like cancer and heart disease.

Blackcurrants are a type of berry which are produced during the month of October. These berry-type fruits are dark purple in color and have multiple seeds inside. Blackcurrants are used in many ways to enhance the taste of the food or drink, other than the normal jam and jelly option. There is plenty of nutrition in the fruit including vitamins and minerals.

Pears are another kind of healthy fruit which start to grow in the autumn season. Different varieties of this fruit are found in various places of the world. Pears taste best while consumed fresh, however the fruit can be eaten as juice, jam or jelly. It is good source of vitamin C and useful dietary fibers.

Plums are also members of the list of in-season fruits for October. This sweet and tart juicy fruit can be used to make jam or desserts, other than eating fresh. The dried versions of plums are known as prune, which is also popular as a dry fruit. This fruit also serves several nutritional benefits.

Quince is a pear-shaped fruit, which tastes more on the sour part when eaten raw. However, this can make delicious jam, jelly or pudding. Roasted quince is also a favorite for many. Being rich in vitamin C, the fruit contains lots of minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium etc.

Strawberries are much appreciated as a great fruit throughout the world. There are infinite ways, by which you can use this fruit; starting from eating raw, to using in jam, desserts, cakes, puddings and anything. Strawberries are very effective to prevent ailments like cancers and heart diseases, for their antioxidant property. It is also an excellent source of vitamin C, minerals, lipids and amino acids.

Raspberries look little different from the strawberries and these are also hot favorite during the autumn and fall. These fruits are also consumed by various means like fresh, jam, juice, puree, desserts or dried. Raspberries have almost maximum antioxidant property among most of the other fruits. These are also rich with vitamin C, manganese and dietary fibers.

Grapes are another popular fruit in this list of seasonal fruits. It is widely used in jam, juice, jelly, vinegar and mainly wine. You can also use these as raisins, after getting dried. Grapes come in variety of colors including black, yellow, pink, dark blue etc. A fresh bunch of grapes can be tempting to many, including myself. These are quite effective for the health, with all their contents like vitamins and minerals.

Pomegranate is also a favorite fruit for many people and usually has the taste in between the sweet and sour. The pomegranate juice is very delicious and has been a popular fruit drink from earlier times. The arils or the seed covers are consumed in their raw form also. Pomegranate arils are commonly used in many Oriental cuisines. The fruit is good in vitamins and minerals like iron, calcium and magnesium.

Cranberries are a type of berry, which are also harvested during the October. This red colored juicy fruit is mostly consumed in their raw forms, but the jam or jelly versions are also very popular. The cranberry sauce is an essential for the Thanksgiving party. The fruit is rich in vitamin C, dietary fibers and manganese.
