What Precautions Should You Take While Making Yogurt
Making yogurt at home is fun and easy. Not only can you create the basic yogurt but also making tasty flavoured yogurts is not a tough job. The fun bit is you can make yogurt at home and get your kids involved to help you out with it. It does not take up lots of time when making yogurt. However, there are few precautions while making yogurt that needs to be followed.
- While making yogurt always boil the milk first. It is very important to get the bacteria in the milk killed before you start making the yogurt.
- While boiling the milk take precautions that the vessel in which you are boiling the milk is cleaned properly. This will help the milk not to get curdled.
- Whenever you are making yogurt at home after boiling the milk let it cool down till it is warm. The milk should be of proper temperature to give you rich and creamy yogurt. It should neither be too hot, nor be too cold. The temperature should be warm enough so that you can still feel it with your hand.
- Among other precautions while making yoghurt keeping the vessel warm in which you are making the yoghurt is also very important. If the vessel is warm enough the yogurt can set easily.
- The starter yogurt that you have kept aside should be fresh and not very stale. In case it is not fresh the yogurt will not have a good flavour.
- Also the right amount of starter yogurt should be used when making the yogurt. Too less of the starter will not give you the rich, creamy consistency whereas use of too much of starter will make the yoghurt sour.
- You should always blend the starter evenly with the warm milk. If not mixed properly, the yoghurt will not set properly. Mix it with a hand blender and give it some froth. This helps the yogurt to become creamy.
- Try and set the yogh\urt in porcelain bowls. Also remember to put a lid and cover the bowl nicely when setting the yogurt.
- It is advisable to keep the yogurt in a warm place. You can cover the whole bowl to keep the heat inside. Inside of a microwave is a good place to set the yoghurt. However if you have a yoghurt setter then that is ideal.
- The last precaution you need to take while making yogurt at home is once you have kept the yoghurt to set do not move it under any circumstances.
Follow these precautions and you are sure to make an amazing yogurt at home.
