Energy drinks have been a craze in today’s world. People of all age group especially youths are mad for them in order to get instant energy without spending time in having food. But the effects of energy drinks are not always positive, it can be harmful too.

Energy drink is a soft drink or a simple beverage that contains some vitamins or legal stimulants which provide short term boost in energy level of the consumers. This extra boost in energy level varies, depending on the size of the drink, stimulant content of the drink and the tolerance level of the person.

If energy drinks are meant to improve the physical abilities of the person by giving that extra boost, then what’s harm in consuming them? The harm lies in its ingredients. In general, all the energy drinks contains large amount of caffeine and sugar. They are rich in taurine, aspartame, herbs like gaurana and ginseng. All these if taken in large quantities, affect the metabolism of the body and become harmful to the person.
Caffeine: Most of the bad effects of energy drinks are due to the caffeine content. It increases the blood pressure and its regular consumption creates various cardiovascular ailments and blood related problems in the body. Headaches, insomnia and jitters are other affects of caffeine addiction through energy drinks.
Taurine and Ginseng: We don’t know the actual effects of these herbs. In addition, as the manufacturers are not obligated by the law makers to give any information on the origin of these plants and whether any pesticides were sprayed on them or if they contain some toxins, we unknowingly might be consuming poison.
Sugar: We all know that energy drinks contain large doses of sugar. This excess sugar leads to weight gain and disorders related to obesity. It also forms the root cause of diabetes.
Aspartame: If consumed daily in large amounts, aspartame may lead to brain damage and cancer.
Moreover, energy drink makes you addicted. You will feel tired and uneasy if you won’t take your normal dose of energy drink everyday. Addiction of anything is not good for health, so instead of going mad for energy drinks go for natural drinks remain away from the bad effects of energy drinks.
