The fad for celebrity diet may deprive you from many essential nutrients that are the core of physical and mental health.
The latest diet fads are Cheryl Cole’s blood group diet and Beyonce’s Maple Syrup detox diet. But caution before celebrity diets because they can lead to orthorexia nervosa. Scientists are warning against following celebrity pure diets as the cases of this mental illness are on a rise.
Orthorexia is a mental disorder in which a person suffers with obsession for a particular quality of food. This is slightly contrary to anorexia, a disorder that restricts one on the quantity of food intake. Orthorexia is a state of mental problem where the sufferer is obsessed with eliminating certain items like salt, sugar, alcohol, gluten, fat, yeast, caffeine or dairy products from the diet. Many celebrity diets recommend eliminating certain foods from diet that are much essential for body. Watch out before you fall for that celebrity diet because this may also lead to serious relationship issues as you refuse to eat at restaurants or at a friend’s place and thereby strain relationships.
Nutritionists caution before celebrity diets, as more and more women have started suffering with orthorexia by following their favorite celebrity diet. According to nutritionists and dietician, each and every nutrient is important for normal functioning of body and mind. Too much of any thing and lack of a healthy nutrient may cause imbalance in the functioning of brain. It’s absolutely okay to indulge in junk food occasionally than saying a complete NO to a particular food.
The emphasis should be on how to eat a balanced diet and remain healthy than simply being obsessed with a particular diet and its quality. Today, we are bombarded with information on nutrition, healthy eating and unhealthy foods.
