Walmart Makes Healthy Food More Accessible

The latest news on the block is that Wal-Mart, the leading supermarket chain is planning to introduce accessible healthy food alternatives. Well, when it comes to the past profit charts of Wal-Mart, healthy food has not been the social criteria ever! But, maybe with a little bit a conscience check and a lot of backing from the First lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama, it seems healthy food is going to stay on the table really long for now.

According to the reports, it seems that the Wal-Mart top honchos had been in discussion over prioritizing healthy foods over marginal profits for quite some time. Now, with President Barrack Obama, pushing the envelope and asking America to be healthy and especially provide healthier alternatives to the children of the country; it seems, this Supermarket giant has a truly golden heart.

Wal-Mart executives appeared with the first lady, Mrs. Obama at a news conference recently in Washington where they outlined their healthy food oriented plan. They seem to have taken a very aggressive pro-health approach where reforms with regards to price changes, nutritive dimensions all were discussed.

Reports suggest that Wal-Mart has decided to go to all the lengths to provide accessible healthy food. They have even gone to the extent to ensure that the packaged items have reduced amounts of sodium, added sugar and Trans fats.

By 2015, in order to provide healthy food, they are planning to reformulate thousands of food items to reduce the bloated quantities of sodium and sugars which are leading to obesity the world over. It has also put forth that it will now strive to “remove” all industrially produced Trans fats from its processed healthy foods!

It does seem too good to be true, but one cannot deny the fact, that with such a big Market tycoon taking this step of providing healthy foods , many others will be bound to follow soon. The Wal-Mart representatives have expressed that the market chain will not suffer any great losses with such a dynamic step but will gain a lot in mass faith. The Wal-Mart chain is planning to work out a practice of connecting the farmers and distributors directly to the main consumer.

The profit screens may blink red, but according to Wal-Mart, it does not want to short sell the farmers but provide healthy food to all. If all works out the way the Wal-Mart is crying out, then the consumers will have a profit of over $1 billion US dollars per year. And since, the farmers will not have to pay middlemen, they too will have enhanced profits.

Wonder how much profit will Wal-Mart want to part with? But, one thing is clear, the competition will help my pocket out for sure!!
