INSIGHTS: The 2010 USA Rice Outlook conference highlighted on the issues pertaining to the global implications faced by rice farmers. The conference covered all critical issues faced by American Rice farmers such as the political landscape; US rice production, farm policy outlook, and other important factors involved in the development of next farm bill.
The speaker line up of the USA Rice Outlook Conference 2010 was impressive. Jim Wiesemeyer – Vice President, Informa Economics, Washington Bureau was one of the distinguished speakers at the conference. On December 10, he provided insights on the results of the mid-term elections, and how it impacted the US Rice Industry.

- Economic Outlook : A View of the Global and U.S Economies and the Outlook for U. S Agriculture

Farm Policy Outlook:Factors Shaping Development of the Next Farm Bill
This session addressed key issues of trade, farm policy, budget and how these issues will impact the development of the next farm bill in the 112th Congress.

Producing More with Less: The Rice Industry’s Sustainability Story and Drivers in Agricultural Sustainability
This session addressed key issues pertaining to the mega trends of maintaining the uniqueness in rice production at all times. It also focused on the different farming methodologies adopted by the farmers to enhance the food production.

Future Exports of U.S. Rice: New Opportunities and Old Impediments
The session focused on issues like identifying the future export markets for US rice and barriers that may develop in their proper assessment.
Other than that State, and National Rice Research Reports and Annual State Production Outlook Reports were also presented during the session.

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Rice Stocks Reporting Program: The Role You Play
The NASS Rice Stocks report discussed about the commercial rice storage facilities used by the rice farmers and the amount of the rice stored in godowns. Grower surveys gave decisive information about the rice stocks reports and grower participation which is vital to ensure that NASS statistics are accurate.
