Types of Decorative Glass Bottles for Liquor Canning
Traditional Fifth
The traditional fifth style is a bottle which is a tall, narrow and cylindrical vessel which is very common amongst people. The traditional liquor bottles that are available in this style possess a slender body and a narrow neck. These bottles became very famous in the late 1820s in America and they are very much in demand till date. Stylistically, early traditional fifth bottles have a slender shape and they are usually devoid of decoration. The bottles that were more ornate gained popularity in the 1920s. The ornate fifth bottles used in the 1900s were almost the same in style with the only difference that they consisted of elements such as swirls and flutes. The ornate elements usually decorate neck and shoulder of these bottles. Body and base of the bottles are adorned with decorations. The traditional fifth bottles are basically molded glass which is available in different colors like green, brown, amber and colorless glass.
Squat Bottles
Squat bottles are very popular containers for keeping liquors such as brandy. The squat liquor bottle has a long neck and a wide body. The sides are either flat or project outward. This bottle was introduced in the late 1800s in America and gained immense popularity in the early 20th century. Several early squat liquor bottles were formed in turn molds. Turn molds don’t tend to cause seams, but they make a concentric circular pattern which is seen on the glass and this is caused by turning the molten glass. The traditional versions were deep brownish in color.
Flasks
Flasks are rectangular bottles that have smooth round corners and an extremely short neck. The flask was used for liquors in the early 20th century. In the late 1800s, flask was the common style of liquor bottle in America where it was used for marketing the rye whiskey. Some flasks had decorative bands on both sides of the bottle. Flasks are commonly known as very small bottles that are carried in a coat pocket, but flasks are available in various sizes ranging from 4 ounces to 16 ounces. Flasks can either be plain or ornate. Flasks were also made with raised images and these were known figured flasks. Figured flasks came into existence in America in 1815 and displayed images of popular historical figures, national symbols and former presidents. Figured flasks were in great demand for their ornate design and were available in pleasing colors.
