Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Treatment Strategies and Clinical Trials
Diabetes is a disease process in which one’s body cannot metabolize (use) carbohydrates (sugar) effectively and this leads to elevated sugar in the blood. Approximately 18 million Americans suffer from Diabetes.
People who have Insulin Dependent (Type 1) Diabetes do not have the ability to synthesize or secrete insulin from the pancreas. In Non-insulin dependent (Type II) Diabetes the pancreas still secretes insulin in response to blood sugar but the type II Diabetes patient’s organs and cells are insensitive to insulin.
