Thanksgiving is here. Just a few more days and the thanksgiving dinner will be spread out and it will be time to revive the Thanksgiving Traditions. Each family might have their own Thanksgiving traditions, some just as simple as dad helping out in the kitchen. Here are the Top 5 Thanksgiving traditions practiced in the nation.

The Presidential Turkey Tradition
Since 1947 the President of United States grants pardon to one of the three live turkeys presented to him. The one that gets pardoned gets to live another year in a farm while the other two are dressed for thanksgiving meal. There are various stories about who started this tradition. Many believe that the pardoned Turkeys owe their life to President Licncoln who started this tradition by pardoning his son Pad’s pet Turkey.
The Thanksgiving Turkey Wishbone Tradition

In a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner Spread, the centerpiece is always the large roasted Turkey. It is not surprising that Thanksgiving is also known as Turkey Day. Now on Thanksgiving day , anyone who gets the wishbone has choose another family member to make a wish and then holding either side of the wishbone they have to break it. It is believed that who ever ends up holding the larger piece of the bone will get their wish.
Hanging multicolored Corn on Our Doors
Many House holds still hang multi-colored corn with husks attached on doors. It is a Thanksgiving Tradition that has been carried on down the years in honor of the fact that corn was one of the main reasons for the survival of the colonists.
Football!!
Football has become synonymous with Turkey day. Throughout the nation, football games are held on the Thanksgiving weekend. It all started with the first intercollegiate football championship held on Thanksgiving Day in 1876. Today the game is still on and the hooligans are still rushing in!
Parades all over!

Ballons, Bands, Floats and a whole lot of fun! Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City has also become a part of thanksgiving traditions in US. Though Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade which first started in 1924 is considered to be the first American Thanksgiving Parade, the actual first parade was held in 1920 by Gimbel's Department Store in Philadelphia.
Of course at the end though Thanksgiving Day is made fun with these traditions. it is essentially about giving thanks for all that you have received the year that passed. The blessings, the love and the people. A lot of families start their meals with prayers and many individuals try and return to the world the good they have received by helping the homeless or volunteering at orphanages and such.
