Indians have a sweet tooth – but can you really blame them? Here are top 10 milk based Indian dessert recipes which will tell you the reason why Indian sweets are so irresistible. Check out the list of milk based Indian dessert recipe ideas.
1. Rasgulla – These are soft and very spongy balls which are made of cottage cheese which is soaked in sugar syrup. If you are lucky enough to have the best rasgulla ( from the eastern state of West Bengal) you will love the way the sweet melts in your mouth.
2. Ras malai – This is a very delicious dumpling which is made from cottage cheese that has been soaked in a very thick, excellently flavored milk with cardamom. You will love the milk which oozes out just as you have a bite of the malai. It is usually garnished with dried fruits and served chilled.
3. Gulab jamun – This is another dumpling which is soaked in thickened milk which has a refreshing flavor. Gulab ( rose) jamun ( purple Indian berry) is dark in color and tastes best when served at room temperature. To enhance its taste, you can top it with some fresh ice cream.
4. Kheer – This is a rice pudding which has a cardamom flavor and filled of nuts and raisins. It is normally eaten during festivals and special occasions. The milk is well thickened to enhance its taste and is garnished with dried fruits before serving.
5. Cham cham - This is another interesting sweet which is typically an East Indian sweet. It tastes wonderful as it is made from thickened cream, milk and rose water as the main ingredients. It is normally eaten chilled.
6. Mishti doi – This is a very sweet yogurt which is synonymous with the eastern Indian state of Bengal. It is prepared with condensed milk, evaporated milk and sugar. This sweet is traditionally served in an earthen bowl.
7. Shrikhand – This is a sweet dish which is made from full cream yogurt. Those who are health
conscious can have it in a low fat yogurt also. Nuts and cardamoms are added as a special touch to this dessert.
8. Sandesh mishti – This is a milk based dessert made mostly from cottage cheese. You can get several varieties of sandesh, in different flavors and in different tastes.
9.Mango kulfi – This is a special dessert for kids. It is made from mango which is mixed with condensed milk, sugar and raisins and is allowed to chill before serving.
10. Rava laddu – These are light yellow color round sweets which are made from coconut and milk. It is specially flavored with cardamoms and served with dry raisins. Rava laddu’s are specially eaten on festivals and weddings when they are offered in huge quantities to the Hindu deities before serving the guests.
