Christmas Feast

Just Imagine!-How dry a winter would be without a Christmas and without the sensuously appetizing Christmas Foods? Here are the top 10 dishes, which you can easily cook on  Christmas day to appease yourself, and the family.

Top 10 Christmas Foods

  1. Wake-Up Casserole: A Wake- up Casserole will be an apt breakfast to begin a Christmas celebration. You can experiment with leftover vegetables, cheeses, ham/sausages to make this casserole more sumptuous. At times to give it a feel of vegetable omelette, I prefer to replace ham or sausage with sautéed mushrooms and peppers. To save the time, I mostly prepare this casserole in the previous night, and refrigerate it.

  2. Christmas Punch: For me the Christmas day breakfast is always accompanied with a yummy Christmas Punch, which I love due to its distinctive taste. This sweet-pungent punch serves as a good appetizer, and ignites your senses, regulates your digestive activities, so that you feel hungry in time to enjoy the Christmas lunch. At times I experiment with various types of kool aids, and sherbets to give interesting color and aroma to the punch.

  3. Pork Vindaloo: My grandmother used to say a Christmas lunch is never complete without a Pork Vindaloo. I love adding Vinegar to Vindaloo instead of Tomato, to give it a tangy and spicy flavor. Usually I team up this Vindaloo with rice and serve it with onion salad, which is made by soaking sliced onions in Vinegar and salt.

  4. Roasted Turkey: Roasted Turkey is one of the most favored- Christmas Foods. Breast portions can be used instead of the liver, if you wish to follow a low -at diet. You can try adding plenty of fresh herbs while roasting the Turkey, to make it more aromatic and appeasing.

  5. Garlic Mashed Potatoes: Earlier I used to prepare the Mashed Potatoes with lots of butter and cream. Now being a cautious eater, I prefer to roast the garlic, and mash it directly into potatoes and enjoy the creamier effect.

  6. Cherry Creamcheese Pie:This dessert is my family favorite, and was an instant hit at all the Christmas parties, whenever I served it. I sometimes prefer to use the cracker crust to line the bottom, instead of my own mix. In either ways, this dessert tastes good. I bet trying this dessert this coming Christmas season will be one of the wisest decisions you will ever make.  Don’t forget to share the recipe with your family and friends.

  7. Christmas Trifle: This multipurpose trifle can be served as a breakfast item or as a desert after lunch. You can either soak the cake in alcohol before hand or drizzle the cake with alcohol at the time of use. In both the ways it tastes good. You can garnish it with fruits of your choice, as I love to use cherries to garnish my Trifle. To make it more appeasing, you can wisely add a scoop of fruit salad to it.

  8. Winter fruit salad: Winter Fruit Salad is also one of the most loved Christmas foods in the West. This salad is apt to be savored towards the evening, when you need a punch to get yourself going after a heavy Christmas lunch. Different kinds of Citrus fruits available during the winters and grapes can be used to make this salad. If you wish to make it taste sweet, you can add a spoonful of honey. I generally use cherries or pomegranate seeds to dress the salad.

  9. Christmas Rice/Noodles: Christmas Rice is one of the most favorite Christmas Foods amongst the Indian Christians. The Christmas Rice as the name suggests is a healthy mix of- basmati rice, fish, shrimps, egg, and vegetables. This rice can be teamed with any sauce or curry as per ones taste.

  10. Crab Soup: I have heard many of my friends whispering during get - togethers that their favorite Christmas foods list would be incomplete without a sumptuous crab soup. I feel it’s true because everyone can experiment with their own version of crab soup as per their likes and dislikes. I add lots of dry spices and coconut milk to make my soup rich and tasty.
