Margarine was created by a Frenchman from Provence, France named Hippolyte. He named it oleomargarine as it reminded him of the Greek word for pearl -- margarites-lustrous pearly drops. But you want to know what the Brits called it, eh? Must have been oleomargarine as they usually try and sound gourmet LOL like their friends the grenouilles. Hey I am 1/4 French, 1/4 Welsh and 1/2 English so I can say that. Fortunately the foodie part is French, the travel bug must be all English.
