It's a very difficult question............ Depends on whether the person is a man or woman and their age. It also depends on how you count "food eaten". Food eaten can be measured in pounds of food sold to grocery stores or in calories eaten at home. Since foods have different weights and can have different calorie amounts, the results vary.

Inspite of that I have the answer............ The average person eats almost 1500 pounds of food a year. That can be thought of as 198 lbs of meat, 290 lbs of cream and milk, 35 lbs of eggs, 68 lbs of bread, 125 lbs of potatoes and 80 lbs of fruit.

The average person eats almost 1500 pounds of food a Year! On average, that can be thought of as 150 pounds of meat, 290 pounds of milk and cream, 35 pounds of eggs, 48 pounds of chicken, 68 pounds of bread, 125 pounds of potatoes, and 80 pounds of fruit. That should be enough till your stomach. In Japan the average person consumes 150# of fish a year. Guess Steve and I fall into the Japanese average. We eat far more than 80 pounds of veggies and fruits (we eat that many tomatoes!), and far less bread, dairy, and eggs than listed as average. Interesting-but our eating style is not average Amrican that is for sure. Those averages would be quite different in health concious Northern California.
