A recent study conducted by Kaivalyadhama Ashrama in India reported that yoga is relatively more effective than methods like aerobics in treating obesity.

Although both methods were found to be effective in controlling overweight and excessive body fat, yoga was found to be more appropriate for the purpose.

The study was conducted with a set of around 204 obese male and female, aged between 15-60 years old for a period of one month. Patients who followed yoga and a strict diet lost up to 15 kg body fat and 95% reported that their blood pressure reached normal levels. On the other hand, those who followed aerobics lost only 8 kg body fat and 25% experienced normal blood pressure levels.

Likewise, patients who followed yoga showed better results in reduction of anxiety and neuroticism than those who followed aerobics.

However, the study report recommends a combined approach on the basis of principles of Yoga and aerobics, as it may prove better in the treatment of obesity.
