While you buy seafood, you should keep in mind the issue of sustainable seafood. The good fish rule will teach you the techniques on how to cheat on seafood. The basic and most important thing is that we should maintain the balance in the eco-system by not overfishing or by controlling our appetite for seafood. Keep these helpful buying tips on seafood in mind, whenever you plan to get some.

The Good Fish Rule

1.       The first rule for buying seafood or fish is that you should go for farmed variation. The farming of seafood is done completely for commercial purpose. They also take good care to maintain the balance of the eco-system inside their farm. Farmed seafood is a much safer option to consume, rather than the normal ones; because they are treated properly with the emphasis on health concern. Many of the fish lovers might not like the taste of farmed seafood, but still it’s our responsibility to safeguard the nature against all types of destructive hazards.

2.       The second good fish rule asks you to investigate about the type or origin of the seafood, before you pick them up. This new year, make a resolution to not buy wild seafood anymore, and go instead for farmed ones. However, there are certain varieties of wild seafood, which are adequately available from the ocean. But again, you never know their count and how many of them are getting caught all over the world leading to the imbalance of the oceanic eco-system. So, ask your store-owner and make sure that you are buying the farmed variations. If this is followed by all of us, then farming will gain more priority on top of fishing from the ocean.

3.       The third rule of thumb is to eat smaller serving of fish or seafood. This way, even if you consume the wild variations, you will do less damage to the environment. You need to control your appetite for seafood, so that adequate amount of seafood still remains alive in the natural water bodies. Give importance to vegetables for including them in your meals. Ultimately, that’s the ideal source of nutrition for us.

4.       The last but not the least, is that buy seafood which are originated locally. Particularly, if you are in United States, then you can safely buy seafood without concerning about the sustainable issue. This is because of the fact that already there are several federal laws and rules on fishing, which take care of maintaining the ecological balance.
