Roast Stuffed Turkey
This 30 minute Thanksgiving recipe is a must feature in any Thanksgiving dinner. After all, the stuffed roasted turkey happens to be the main flavor of the traditional Thanksgiving feast. For stuffing the turkey in this recipe, the bird is first stood on its tail and the dressing is stuffed loosely inside its neck cavity. Then, the neck skin is pulled over the stuffing and fastened to the body using a poultry skewer. Next, the body cavity is dressed loosely. After that, the legs of the bird are tied and secured in place. Now, with the breast side up, the turkey is placed inside a shallow roasting pan on the wire rack. The exposed meat surfaces are brushed with vegetable oil and a generous amount of spice mix is sprinkled over the entire meat. The bird is then wrapped loosely in an extra-thick aluminum foil and roasted at 325 degrees F until the meat temperature reads 180 degrees F.
Stuffed Pumpkin
For the vegetarians, when the turkey flies off the menu, there are certainly many other stuffed options which come into the landing. Traditional and delicious, pumpkins are of course the first choice for a vegetarian stuffed dish. For this recipe, sautéed onions, mayonnaise, eggs, broccoli and cream of mushroom soup are mixed and seasoned with salt and pepper. Then, a third of this mixture is scooped into a large sized, deseeded sugar pumpkin, which is then layered with a cup of cheese, some more of the stuffing and melted butter. Some toasted almonds are sprinkled on the top and the layers are repeated till the entire mixture is used up. Finally, the stuffed pumpkin is baked for an hour.
Stuffed Onions
A non-traditional favorite, this Thanksgiving stuffed delicacy is a wonderful treat for the non-vegetarians. For this recipe, large sized onions are peeled and their centers are scooped out, leaving the bottoms thicker. The scooped out onion pieces are then mixed with chicken or turkey broth, minced turkey meat, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, cream, sugar, salt and pepper. This stuffing is then patted inside the onion shells and these are baked till golden.
