In one of my previous posts, I had listed top 10 cancer fighting foods. Today, I will elaborate further on the topic by telling why tea especially green tea works as an anti-cancer food.

The health benefits of tea are numerous and that is why tea is being used from many years as a beverage and even as a cure for many medicines. Recently, a study conducted at the American Institute for Cancer Research confirmed that green tea can halt the cancer cells growth upto a level and is more effective than other medication of cancer.

The green and the black tea are also pretty much effective in decreasing the size of lung tumors and slowing down and also preventing breast, colon and prostate cancers. The oolong  tea also has its health benefits for preventing ovarian cancer.

Some of the studies have also suggested that white tea can benefit more in stopping the growth of cancerous cells when compared to green, black and oolong teas.

Looking at the health benefits of tea and its remarkable medicinal properties as cancer fighting food makes one think, what is so incredible in tea?

The answer to this is Catechins. Catechins are the plant chemicals which act as powerful antioxidants in the body. These catechins reduce the chances of cancer by fixing cell damages. These antioxidants also hinder the growth of tumor cells in the body and  restrict them from growing further. Green tea contains three times more catcechins than black tea. White tea is said to have maximum levels of catechins.

Brewed tea, either hot or cold is said to give maximum protection against cancer. The key to potentially realizing the health benefits of tea is consuming it regularly for years; white, green, oolong, and black teas,  can all protect against cancer and other diseases.
