Sweet Potato Cookies?

I came across these cookies by sheer accident. While shopping at a Super Wal-Mart, the packaging caught my eye. I had not seen the Lawdy Miss Clawdy brand before and so, I called an expert-my father, Monroe S. Frederick, who is a walking encyclopedia of Black Entertainment history. Thirty plus years as a staff photographer with Jet/Ebony magazine helps too. So with out any hesitation, he told me about Lloyd. Apparently in the 50's he was a one-hit wonder.
Elvis used his song as well. His hit song was "Lawdy Miss Clawdy."

The descendants of Lloyd Price have started a food company.
http://www.lawdymissclawdy.com/products1.htm. It's great that Lawdy
Miss Clawdy made it into Wal-Mart. I shop at Wal-Mart for one reason-to get
things at a reasonable price. I was in shock when I saw the price of 12 cookies. It was almost six bucks! Curiosity got the better of me. I had to taste these sweet potato cookies. The adage that "Cheap stuff is not good and good stuff is not cheap" proved to be untrue this time.

Here is my review of Lawdy Miss Clawdy sweet potato cookies: It seemed like
a tasty idea to add sweet potatoes to them. We have experimented with sweet
potatoes and they add a smooth texture and palpable finish to dishes. With Lloyd's cookies, I was greatly disappointed. The cookies had an overpowering flavor of typical candied yams spices. I love the smell of cinnamon and allspice, but when it is intense its horrible. It reminds me of vanilla extract-it smells great but tastes like medicine. These cookies would be great for those who are on a diet. Why? You will be only able to eat one or almost one.

I don't know about these cookies, but why not try and make your own? I have heard some unsavory things about Walmart and would advise against shopping there none the less. I think the adage you speak about is true most of the time and we need to expect to pay for quality, usually because time and skill is involved in the production of such goods. You might think it a bit extreme although I believe also that when we make purchases, especially food purchases we are making a statement of endorsement and support to the people (company) with which we are spending our hard earned money.

I bet you could creat a much better cookie! Pumpkin bread is gret. I make pumpkin cookies for the kids around Thanksgiving. They have golden raisins and nuts in them, and some candied ginger. I have been in Wallmart once. Had to see what it was all about. I am not impressed with their qulity nor pricing compred to Costco. Walmart had a good selection of light bulbs and a potting soil that was OK, and that is it. So much fast food and fat loaded items-no thank you! I prefer to buy fresh fresh ingredients. If I don't have it in my garden I will buy at our local Farmer's Market and even Safeway or Whole Foods have a lot of Organic produce. Costco does have top quality meats and other items. Just read your labels.
