Snap You Wrist To Stop Food Cravings
The TV screens have been flooded with weight loss techniques and the latest in the list is the snap your wrist ones. This method supposedly helps one to stop food cravings.
What Dr. Oz did not speak about is that food cravings for something sweet are always governed by ones brain and not the taste buds. It is more or less like wanting water, while thirsty. Studies carried out at MIT a few years ago came out with the report of how people have an urge to eat when they are irritated, stressed, depressed, tired or impatient. The mood is what governs the need for serotonin activity and it has nothing to do with any snap your wrist techniques.
What the brain craves for
In situations like this the brain craves for carbohydrates and not just greasy fatty things like donuts and chips. Now how this carbohydrate has to be consumed is entirely depended on you. You can either opt for multi grain snacks or for sugary delights, but either way, the snap your wrist mantra will surely not work.
One has to also understand that when carbs that have lots of fat, like cookies or ice creams, are digested slowly when compared to the carbs with more fat content, which means it takes time to prepare serotonin. Once the brain has had its share of serotonin, the cravings are replaced by calmness. Now one has to understand that the snap your wrist technique will not work in this situation and that shows like Dr Oz is highly misleading.
Logic and research
MIT conducted a research with women going through PMS who had intense cravings for carbs. During their PMS, these women took more than 1100 calories a day, which was much larger than their normal intake. When their meals were substituted with fat free carbohydrates, they were able to cope better with their PMS issues and they also managed to control their hunger pangs.
Snap your wrist technique is something that will not work because this cannot stop food cravings. The brain needs carbs to increase production of serotonin and choosing healthy sources of carbs are the only way to tackle this issue. Do not try to fit the craving, just opt for a healthy alternative instead. And yes, to stop food cravings, snap your wrist band off and think and act practically.
