The nut is known to have several cardiac benefits as well as marked influence in improving the lipid profile in hyperlipidemic individuals. If not taken in recommended quantity, walnut may lead to some negative effects on health; let’s have a look on them.
Some Side Effects Of Walnut
Walnut doesn’t have any reported drug interactions but it is known to interfere with the absorption of iron in the body. This won’t affect the healthy persons but anaemic individuals may suffer from it. So, if any person is on medication for anaemia, he should consult a doctor before taking walnut.
Several individuals have been found sensitive to walnut, they often report skin rashes, sneezing and itching after its consumption. Such side effects of walnut are known to subside after few hours. If they persist, one should contact the doctor, as some cases of fatal anaphylaxis to walnut have also been reported.
Toxicity of walnut has not been reported yet on humans but they have been observed in animals. Juglone is a chemical present in walnut which exhibits toxic effects in animals. To remain on the safer side, one should report immediately if any signs of walnut toxicity is observed after consuming the nut.
Effects During Pregnancy And Nursing Stage
Walnut is considered safe in food amounts in pregnant and nursing women. In some of the research studies, few cases of utero sensitization have been found though no confirmed report has been issued yet. So, necessary precautions should be taken during these stages.
Excessive consumption of walnut can lead to diarrhea so one should avoid its overeating.
Worsening Of Certain Pre-Existing Disease
Individuals suffering from asthma, loose stools and hyperactivity of fire because of yin deficiency should abstain from walnut as it worsens the situation.
