Side Effects Of Fruits
Hardly any of us can imagine of side effects of fruits as they are considered very healthy and nutritious food items. But eating excess amount of fruits is also not good for health as anything in excess has its own repercussion. So, let’s examine some of the side effects of fruits which can harm our body.
Flatulence, Gas & Abdominal Bloating
Consuming fruits in excess amount especially their skins and peels may lead to flatulence and gas. Most common fruits which cause flatulence, gas and abdominal bloating are Apples, Prunes, Pears, and Peaches.
Accumulation Of Harmful Chemicals In The Body
Fruits are grown on large scale to meet their ever increasing demand. For their better growth and development, sprays and pesticides are used during their production phase. These sprays and pesticides are not easily washed off. So, consumption of fruits which have not been thoroughly washed exposes our body to the residues of harmful chemicals found in sprays and pesticides.
Diarrhea
Diarrhea is one of the common side effects of fruits. The symptoms of diarrhea are generally observed after eating unripe fruits especially, Apricot and Plum.
Urination
Many fruits rich in Vitamin C, like Water Melon, Lemon and Melon have diuretic properties. Their consumption in large amount may lead to frequent urination.
Carotenemia
Carotenemia or yellow skin pigmentation is commonly seen in individuals who eat more fruits rich in beta carotene. Citrus fruits, Apricots and Peaches are common examples of fruits rich in beta carotene. Their consumption in large amount can cause yellow discoloration of skin especially on soles and palms.
Photosensitivity
Eating too much of citrus fruits exposes you to photosensitizing agents. Though this situation is rare, but it shouldn’t be overlooked.
Headache & Migraine
Fruits cannot be solely responsible for headache and migraine but it is one of the fruit side effects. Researchers have found that individuals whose diet are rich in certain fruits like Grapefruits, Lemons, Oranges, Bananas, Raisins, Figs, Avocados, Papayas, often suffer from headache and migraine. The symptoms are more frequent if overripe fruits are eaten.
Peptic Ulcers & Gastritis
Symptoms of gastritis and peptic ulcers are one of the common side effects of fruits. Fruits are not directly responsible for it but they are known to aggravate the condition. Fruits acidic in nature like, Lemon, Orange, Pineapple, and Tomato are known to irritate the stomach lining over a period of time.
These were some of the common side effects of fruits which one may face over a period of time. Moreover, people strictly on fruit diet are known to lack various essential vitamins and minerals.
