Scotch Egg Is Set To Make A Comeback This Year
Scotch eggs were often eaten as part of the British countryside picnic lunch, and now in 2011 the scotch egg is set to make a comeback.
The last time I had a Scotch egg was when a friends from Britain paid us a visit and we went out on a picnic to the nearby park While packing the picnic basket, she went on to making what she called Scotch eggs, which it seems was once a part of every British picnic basket.
Near Death of the Scotch Eggs
Over the years the tradition of picnics and the concept of picnic baskets had given way to a quick snack at the roadside joint. In the year 2011 the scotch eggs is set to make a comeback and is today a yummy snack served at most hotels across Britain. The eggs are hard boiled and it is surrounded by sausage meat and rolled in bread crumbs. With most pubs, restaurants and shops around British supporting this delicacy, one can say that scotch eggs comeback is definitely assured.
Olive magazine has listed the trends in the food industry. A list of those delicacies that will be the most popular this year – gin, plain filtered coffee rather than milky cappuccinos, restaurant with 'no airs,' vodka with bacon flavor, plain milk based ice creams and the likes. The magazine also mentions about the scotch egg comeback, which has been described as ultimate.
Promoters of the Scotch Eggs
The Hinds Head in Bray, which is the Michelin Pub of the year for 2011, serves scotch quail eggs. The Maidenhead based restaurant called The Royal Oak also serves the scotch egg comeback dish. The Manchester Egg, a company owned by Ben Holden makes a snack from pickled eggs, which is surrounded by black pudding and covered in breadcrumbs. The Manchester Egg is in fact the pioneer in the traditional British snack manufacturing and marketing department.
A department sore in London, called Fortnum & Mason claim that they have invented the scotch eggs comeback or otherwise they sell them for £2.75 each. According to these guys it was invented in the year 1738.
