Raw Eggs??? Dangerous or not?

Ever tried having some raw eggs. We have always stopped ourselves from consuming raw eggs because of the possible presence of Salmonella (and of course the revolting smell and taste could be one of the reasons!)  Anyways for those of you who like raw eggs or like to use raw eggs in their food like in Japanese Cuisine, and are worried about food poisoning through salmonella here is  some comforting news! According to the American Egg board only 1 out of 20,000 eggs will be contaminated with Salmonella Bacteria.

Raw Eggs

Even though the nutrient medium in the egg provides a great environment for bacterial multiplication, safe handling of eggs can completely cut out the possibility of Food Poisoning by Salmonella. But then again it is also true that though salmonella doesn't affect hens it can be passed onto the egg yolk and if it is not in the egg yolk already it can get there soon enough because of the super porous egg shell!!! Maybe Rocky dint really know better when he used to gobble down the egg, yolk and all!!!!  So what do you think??..will you dare yourself to gobble down a few raw eggs?? I still wouldn't, but it did happen to me when I was smaller.(wouldn't want to  discuss my dare with my brothers here!!)..what about you? Any raw egg stories to share??

I like my eggs over medium which means that the yolks are essentially raw. And with odds running 1:20,000 I believe I'll continue eating my eggs over medium.

I like to use pasteurized eggs when I am eating raw or runny eggs. They're just like normal eggs (and I think tastier) without the risk of salmonella.

Even pasturized eggs can become contaminated because of the porous egg shell and I don't believe they are worth the extra cost.
