carved pumpkinCan you imagine Halloween without scary faced carved pumpkins? Hell no! All of us love to see monstrous “Jack-O-Lanterns” dispersed all around. Therefore, pumpkin carving is a must-do task during holidays like Halloween. A traditional Halloween is certainly incomplete without a carved pumpkin. So, let us learn how to to do it.

Those who are artistically inclined, get a chance to show off their carving skills, while those who have not ever tried carving pumpkins need not fret. Here are some easy-to-follow steps to make the job simple.

Things Needed for Carving Pumpkins

  • Sharp knife
  • Scooper
  • Felt pen

Simple Carving Ideas

  • First, select a fresh and a round-shaped pumpkin. Remove its stem with a sharp edged knife. Use a scooper to scoop out all seeds and the mushy part from the pumpkin. Retain the top part and the stem. Keep them aside.

  • Take a felt pen and draw the desired design of a scary face on the pumpkin. Now cut along the outline that you have drawn. Take out the little pieces. Cover the top part of the pumpkin with aluminum foil.

  • Now scrape off the bottom of the pumpkin flat so that it sits easily. Before covering the pumpkin with the lid, light a candle and place inside the hollow pumpkin to make it look scary. Then place the top part of the pumpkin as the lid. Since you have lined the lid with aluminum foil, it will not burn off the lid.

  • The designs may vary quite a bit. You may carve a scary-faced pumpkin, a smiling pumpkin or even an angry pumpkin.

  • The sliced pumpkins will stay unspoilt for about two weeks.

  • You also get ready-to-make pumpkin kits, which give you step-by-step instructions as well as some designing ideas.

Whether you are using the traditional method or a pre-designed one,  carving pumpkins are  easy and great fun. Wish you a happy pumpkin carving this holiday season.
