WHAT: Teams of high school juniors and seniors studying the restaurant food
service industry will complete in culinary and management competitions
through the ProStart program.
WHO: Participants include: Passaic County Technical Institute,Essex County Vocational Technical School, Atlantic County Institute of Technology and Bergen County Academies
WHERE: Hudson County Community College, 161 Newkirk Street, Jersey City, NJ
WHEN: Thursday, January 21, 2010, 9:00am, final ceremony and awards, 2:45pm
WHY: The New Jersey Restaurant Association (NJRA) and the New Jersey. Restaurant Education Foundation presents ProStart Student.Invitational Competition. ProStart is a two-year curriculum designed to teach high school students the culinary and management skills necessary for a career in the restaurant and food service industries.
Students will compete in both culinary skills and management skills. Culinary teams compete in Product Check-in, Knife Skills, Mise En Place, and Meal Preparation. Management teams compete in a Case Study on restaurant management (menu planning, pricing, vision for restaurant). Image credit.
