Preservatives in food

Preservatives In FoodIt's a shame that we can't really enjoy our food without trying to figure out what and why is sodium dioxide is in our food. I understand that people in Oklahoma would like fresh salmon from Alaska or delicious strawberries from California, but why do we need foods covered in pesticides? What about farm raised salmon? Here is an example of a study found in a article on breastcancer.org Study results: The researchers found that farmed salmon had significantly more toxins than wild salmon. Specifically, they found that: Chile and Washington State had the least contaminated farmed salmon. Yet even the farmed fish from those areas had significantly higher amounts of PCBs, dioxins, and dieldrin than wild salmon from the same areas. Farmed salmon from Europe had significantly higher toxin levels than farmed salmon from North and South America. The fish feed samples had toxin amounts similar to, or greater than, those found in farmed salmon. This suggests that the feed may be the source of toxins in farmed salmon. Basically, we need to make sure that we research and find an healthier alternative such as organic produce, meats and fish, dairy, and even junk food. It's unfortunate that there are so many organic foods that cost more than processed preservative laden foods. I support local farms that aren't under corporate control, but farming will soon be outdated. We need to continue dialogue globally and fight for the right to enjoy our food without it being tained. Since most of us are on the run and can't farm, it makes it more difficult to really focus on what the government is allowing companies to put in our food. I hope some people have read or at least have heard about the book called "The Jungle" by Upton sinclair. It talks about how horrid the Chicago stock yards were during the early 1900's. Because of the poor conditions the factory workers worked under, the meat was sold tainted. Even can goods which could last were sold defected. Meaning ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING was processed in the sausage and can goods. Today we have to worry about irradiated meats and who knows what. Besides the meat and fish issue, we have to deal with basic items such as soup, noodles, even toothpaste. That's for another time to deal with. I love food, but I don't love unnatural chemicals in my food or drink. I hope that some if not all of us can work together to find a safer way to eat.

Very informative article. Particularly the facts about Salmon toxin. Thanks for taking the lead. I am very concerned about food safety and how big money plays with people's life. We should raise public awareness about it so people can decide for better.

Thanks. I would love to get enough people interested so we can force congress to make laws banning chemicals in our foods. Can you believe that there is saccarin in some toothpaste like in colgate. I'll continue to research and tell people about what we are forced to eat. I hope that more will join us in the fight for Fresh Food:)
