Poll Says - Americans Think Their Diet Is The Healthiest
Poll Says - Americans Think Their Diet Is The Healthiest! Why am I not so surprised? I have close to one thousand friends on Facebook from all over the world, and a sizable amount of that population is American. Yesterday, my status message read as “American food is the blandest and is full of gooey fat.” And that made quite a few of my American friends very defensive. I would like to share the actual comment that an American friend posted. Here is what she said; “Bright, you obviously aren't up to date with what the modern American eats. We have adapted our diets and American food rocks! We have the freedom to make wise choices in what we eat and what we do. I am defending people and those who choose to think with their brains not the advertisements on TV which is unarguably the food that really sucks, full of fat and flour and things that are bad for you. I eat healthy. Not "American" which is a misnomer.” Unfortunately, she doesn't realise that her BMI is bordering 28; she only thinks that she is eating healthily. If she thinks like that, then I'm sure that most Americans think their diet is healthiest.
So, is American diet the healthiest? Absolutely not. Agreed that everyone has a right to eat healthily and the freedom to make choices. But I really don't think all the Americans are making 'wise choices'. I'm not saying this, the facts do. Consumer Reports Health conducted a poll among 1237 Americans to know what they think of their diets. Nancy Metcalf of Consumer Reports Health, who conducted the poll said, "Americans tend to give themselves high marks for healthy eating, but when we asked how many sugary drinks, fatty foods, and fruits and veggies they consumed, we found that their definition of healthy eating was questionable,"
The poll revealed some shocking insight to what the Americans think of their diets and what they are actually eating. Americans think their diet is healthiest, but in reality, it is far from it. According to the poll, 4 in 10 Americans said that they ate "pretty much everything" or "mostly everything" that they wanted. 9 in 10 Americans say their diet is healthy but only a quarter limit the amount of fat or sugar they eat and two-thirds don't eat enough fruit and vegetables, the poll found.
So, my dear Americans, do you still think that you are eating healthy? Well, think again!
