CARTERET, N.J. — Branded specialty departments are a key element of Pathmark Stores’ new prototype, unveiled Monday at a remodeled location in Kinnelon, N.J. The design uses new lighting, new flooring, new color palettes and other design improvements to elevate fresh departments at the 55,4000-square-foot store. “The Kinnelon prototype is the culmination of a comprehensive design process which included incorporating consumer research, merchandising strategies and operational input to develop a compelling retail footprint that can be easily replicated in current and future renovations,” John Standley, chief executive officer of Pathmark, said in a statement. Names of specialty departments — including Chelsea Bakery, 59th Street Delicatessen and Chesapeake Seafood — suggest authenticity and a connection to the tri-state area, reinforcing the chain’s “Go Fresh, Go Local” slogan, Pathmark said. Colemanbrandworx, New York, designed the new store.
