oyster sauceYou cannot think of the Chinese, Thai, or Cambodian cuisines without the oyster sauce. Therefore, you need a substitute when you find out that there is no such sauce in the pantry as your cooking will remain incomplete without it. So, here are the alternatives, with which you can replace the original:-

1) Soy Sauce

Oyster sauce has a good substitute in soy sauce as it also provides color and flavor to the dish, just like the original.

2) Sugar/Soy Sauce

Soy sauce, along with sugar, makes for another good substitute for oyster sauce. To make this, you can use a teaspoon of sugar in the amount of soy sauce, with which you want to replace an equal amount of oyster sauce.

3) Fish Sauce

Fish sauce is a good replacement for oyster sauce in some of the food recipes, as its texture resembles the original.

4) Vegan Substitute

A better alternative to oyster sauce can be its vegan version. To do so, you need to take mushroom broth, boiling water, brown bean sauce, and unprocessed sugar and let this entire mixture boil for sometime, before you add cornstarch to this mix. Boil it till it thickens and you have your oyster sauce substitute ready.

5) Homemade substitute

This one takes the cake because it comes from the original ingredient: shucked oysters. You need to mince shucked and drained oysters, then add water and the liquid (in which they were kept) back to the minced oysters. Boil the concoction, add salt, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, boil again till it thickens and then use it.

Oyster sauce finds its use in many cuisines besides just those mentioned above and if you can get your hands on any of these Oyster sauce substitute ideas, you need not to worry again ever.
